From past to future. The new collection of wearable NFTs “Cristóbal Balenciaga: New Code” is a real revolution in digital fashion. Its 10 wearable NFTs are taken from original, never-before-seen drawings by legendary couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga. The much-awaited collection will be presented during Metaverse Fashion Week in Decentraland from 28-31 March 2023.
Each wearable NFT is a virtual recreation of a drawing from an extraordinary collection of more than 9,000 drawings by Basque couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga belonging to Lorenzo Riva, artistic director of Maison Balenciaga in Paris in the early 1980s. The collection is curated by Art Consulting.
In December 2022, a corpus of 8,362 drawings from this collection was acquired by the Department of Culture of the Basque Government and deposited in the Historical Archive of the Basque Country. After careful study, the drawings will be on show at the Balenciaga Museum in Getaria, near Bilbao. During Fashion Week, a selection of these drawings will be exhibited for the first time at the Balenciaga Museum.
Iconic clothes for iconic avatars. The “Cristóbal Balenciaga: New Code” collection will be available exclusively at the Cristóbal Balenciaga boutique in Decentraland, located in the Neo Plaza, coordinates: 79 | -09 -78 | -09. Customers, avatars and fashion enthusiasts will be able to explore the collection on 3D rotating dispensers and purchase the limited-edition garments directly from the boutique.
“Cristóbal Balenciaga: New Code” represents a unique opportunity to wear the garments by this iconic designer. Known as the “King of Fashion”, Balenciaga’s genius invented a unique style. Among his creations were spectacular outfits worn by Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Ava Gardner, Marlene Dietrich and Jackie Kennedy.
Decentraland Fashion Week. With over 60 brands, including Dolce & Gabbana, Tommy Hilfiger, COACH and Adidas, the catwalk shows in London, Paris and Milan are going virtual for the second edition of Decentraland’s Metaverse Fashion Week (MVFW). The event celebrates the latest developments in digital fashion. Fashion Week will bring together industry leaders and fashion enthusiasts from around the world for runway shows, immersive fashion experiences, shopping and networking.
The theme for 2023 is “Future Heritage”. It represents an opportunity for designers and fashion brands to connect tradition and innovation and write the next chapter in digital fashion. A concept perfectly expressed by the “Cristóbal Balenciaga: New Code” collection, with its wearable NFTs that are a transcription of the timeless clothes of a legendary couturier.
