Pizziolo, M & Ravasio, R 2026, Free Solo. Artists wihout gallery, enhanced Free Solo, EdiXion, Dubai.
Who are the freest artists in the system? Those who have no gallery. Free Solo is an editorial project that intercepts them, listens to them, exhibits them. Not outsiders, but solitary climbers of the visible: creatives without labels, often invisible, but never irrelevant. A collection of voices, works and paths that restores dignity and space to those who create off the radar and precisely for this reason can surprise more.
Free by choice or excluded by chance? Artists without galleries today represent more than 80% of active creatives (source Art Market Report, by UBS) but remain invisible in the official art market. Free Solo investigates this parallel universe where authentic talents have developed innovative strategies to exist artistically outside the traditional gallery system: some by necessity, because born in contexts lacking cultural infrastructure, others by conscious choice, voluntarily isolated from dominant commercial logics.
Free to create, free to be. EdiXion, the publishing house founded by Marina Pizziolo and Romano Ravasio, with the editorial initiative Free Solo does not want to domesticate these creatives, nor force them into the shackles of a market that would denature their essence. The objective is to build an alternative ecosystem that amplifies their visibility, preserving their autonomy intact. Through innovative digital strategies – from direct sales to private commissions, from online platforms to site-specific projects – it will document how it is possible to create economic value without sacrificing expressive freedom. It is not about inserting these artists into the existing circuit, but about building new routes where independence becomes a resource, not a limit. A market that respects the great value of their autonomy and transforms exclusion into opportunity, keeping intact what makes them unique: the capacity to create without compromises.
