An Archive to preserve the legacy of a master of international couture. In 2024 the Lorenzo Riva Archive was established for the study and enhancement of the work of the couturier (Monza, 1938-2023), one of the great protagonists of Italian fashion in the world. Curated by Marina Pizziolo and Romano Ravasio, commissioned by heir Luigi Valietti, the Archive manages the collection of drawings, iconic garments and historical documents that testify to an extraordinary career: from the artistic direction of the Maison Balenciaga in Paris to the foundation of Atelier Lorenzo Riva which showed on haute couture runways throughout the world.
A vision that crosses continents. Lorenzo Riva brought Italian elegance to the runways of Milan, Paris, New York, London, dressing royalty, jet set personalities and cinema stars, such as Whitney Houston, Isabella Rossellini, Penélope Cruz and Jerry Hall. His unmistakable aesthetic managed to combine Italian sartorial tradition and international innovation, always maintaining the precious intimacy of artisanal detail that distinguishes great couture.
An exhibition project of international scope. The Archive is coordinating through Art Consulting a Promoting Committee for an exhibition-event at the Royal Villa of Monza. The project, scheduled for March-April 2027 in conjunction with Fashion Week or the Salone del Mobile, has already gathered the support of authoritative personalities from the world of fashion, culture and entrepreneurship such as Igor Uria Zubizarreta (Director of Collections at the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museum).
The choice of the Royal Villa of Monza emphasises the profound bond between Riva and his birthplace. By assigning Monza a leading role in recognising one of its most illustrious citizens, the exhibition will dialogue ideally with the world of design, offering a transversal narrative capable of uniting fashion, art and architecture. A necessary tribute that arises from the heart and continues to speak to the heart, preserving the aesthetic and cultural legacy of a great master of international couture.
